Workshop Description: Discover the joy of mosaics in this fun and hands-on weekend workshop designed especially for beginners! Across two creative days, you’ll learn both indirect and direct fixing techniques while completing beautiful mosaic artworks on a paver and flower pot. Guided by experienced artist and teacher Joanne Van Hees, you’ll build skills, gain confidence, and enjoy the satisfaction of crafting with tile, glass, and color. All materials are provided—just bring your curiosity, a few essentials, and your creative spark!

What You’ll Learn:

• Indirect mosaic method on Day One (mounted on a paver)

• Direct mosaic method on Day Two (applied to a flower pot)

• Hands-on experience with tile cutting, design layout, and material handling

• Guidance on techniques, safety, and creative expression

What to Bring:

• Your own lunch (morning and afternoon tea provided)

• Closed-in shoes

• Apron or shirt to protect clothes

• Safety glasses

• Hand towel and old cloths to clean your work

• Small containers for holding tiles (e.g. clean food tubs)

• Optional: personal collection of mosaic tiles

• Optional: mosaic nippers (some available to borrow)

About Your Tutor – Joanne Van Hees: Joanne Van Hees is a passionate artist and skilled ceramicist with decades of experience. A long-time tutor at Scone Arts & Crafts, Joanne began her mosaic journey in 1999 and has since led numerous community projects, including installations at Aberdeen Rose Garden, Lion Park, and Scone Motor Inn. Her commissioned three-panel mosaic of a mare and foal is a local landmark. Joanne brings a warm, practical teaching style and a wealth of knowledge to this workshop—and she’s excited to share it with you.
