About Pearl Moon:

Pearl Red Moon is a local mixed media artist residing in Murrurundi who works primarily with textiles. Pearl has had numerous exhibitions around Australia over decades and also the distinction of having been invited to teach internationally 5x, in New Zealand, Canada and the United States. Her recent local December 2024 exhibition of 2 dimensional paintings was a departure from her more typical work with textiles. She spent half of 2024 experimenting with and developing a body of work using painted papers created through the gelatin plate printing process. There are numerous approaches to making decorated papers from the gelatin plate printing process and in this class we will learn the particular processes that the artist used to create the works shown in her exhibition “Women Are Women (not men)”. The method she developed revolves around extensive use of stencils for masking and building up multiple layers of prints to make a single decorated paper. Then we investigate how the papers can be used to create either backgrounds or more complex collaged images.
